Phil Curcio comes to the Cotgreave Insurance Agency by way of his private law practice and his public sector position with U.S. Congressman and former N.Y. State Senator Lee Zeldin.  As Area Vice President and In-House Counsel, Phil’s presence at the Cotgreave Agency adds yet another dimension of professional service and reliability to Cotgreave’s already impeccable forty year record of client service and satisfaction. Having practiced as both a litigator and a transnational attorney, Phil’s broad-based legal experience is a resource for clients and agency staff.  His understanding of liability enables him to act as a trusted adviser for businesses on Long Island.

Phil’s life experience and formal education make him a natural for maritime risk concerns in particular.  He grew up working as a deckhand in the local fishing fleet, and now holds a U.S. Coast Guard 100-Ton Vessel Master’s Certificate, remaining active part-time as a charter boat captain during the regular season.  In addition, his law practice has represented both private and commercial vessel owners as well as marine related businesses.  As a result, he has accumulated a wealth of expertise in the maritime field, and he maintains close relationships with many commercial captains, vessel owners and industry leaders.

Phil earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University in 1995. He received his Juris Doctor in 1998, graduating Cum Laude from University of Maine School of Law with a concentration in Ocean & Coastal Law and Admiralty Law, while serving as Managing Editor for two editions of the Ocean and Coastal Law Journal.  Following law school, he took a position as an adjuster for a maritime insurance company. He then returned to his native Long Island, where he began his own private law practice.
